Nero Digital is available since december 2004 and stands as the direct competitor of Divx6, which we have been presenting recently, although its release has been delayed (original release was planned for march). Those who own a divX player know it : the latest version of Xvid leads to troubles if default options are used. The packed bitstream option make the videos unreadable on standalone players. And in this case, there’s only one solution : reencode files... -More-

We mentionned that early this year, DivX Networks is about to release officially its latest development : divX6. Thanks to a sample video that is available since january, we already had a detailed glance at what was under process. Besides an improved video quality, it was mainly new features which were remarkable for the standalone player users. -More-

The beginning of this year is full with announcements of new codecs based on the mpeg4 standard. These promises will obviously affect the future of divx standalone players as we know them today. Besides, it will influence the evolution of our test CD.-More-

Surprise coming from Peekton ! On 30th december Peekton delivered on their website a new firmware for the standalone player which is considered as one of their best-seller : the Peekton 6003. That update is even more surprising when one knows that this model is not distributed anymore. -More-

Until now DivxTest did not treat general information concerning the divx players field. This time however it makes sense to inform you about an unexpected experience, after a spanish tester using BBdoc’s CD reported that the latest Pioneer firmware (2.0.9) brings a little bit more than just the support of divx subtiltes...-More-

The test results prove it : Mediatek based standalone players are excellent players as far as compatibility is concerned. But when it comes to design interface considerations, things get worse for most of them. To change this situation, some users have been gathering on many European Forums as well as on the famous Yahoo Groups mailing list. -More-
