It’s a gold rush since a few days... Better said it’s a gold rush since the availability of a brand new Test CD for Divx players was announced on Planete-Numerique’s boards .

Everything started in february 2004... While always being asked "What is the best divx standalone player ?" I thought that the number of available players on the market had become so important that it was hardly possible to chose one. So many functionnalities, so many brands, so many user experiences, sometimes differing... Something had to be done : gather as many experiences as possible in one single summary. A first form was quickly created.

A Top 50 for Divx Players

Read more than 60 000 times, this first summary was an immediate success, and proved that an indicator had become useful... perhaps necessary ! A kind of "Top 50" for Divx Players. Many boards or websites have since been refering to this summary. That gave it the status of reference in the field.

However something was still missing to create a reliable summary and an objective summary : an exhaustive benchmarking, containing as many video formats as possible and a list of all current and expected functionnalities, that would allow one to compare players against predefined criterias. A real test method in fact !

123 tests !

That’s how the new project is born, pushed by myself on Planete-Numerique’s boards. And thanks to the work of a team, the CD of 123 tests spread on 700 mbytes is now realized. The test method is inflexible and probably more severe than the certification tests of Divx Networks...

Let me take this opportunity to express my deepest thanks to nono92, Lyr, Dams76, acerb, PixiesII and of course Stephane Cazat who helped this project become true.

An other way of considering peer to peer

The distribution of our CD (also known as BBdoc’s CD) has now begun on p2p networks. You can get it on eMule/eDonkey. More details on how to download it in the FAQ

Once you are finished with the tests, you are welcome to share the results on MPC boards who started supporting the English part of our Project in march 2005.

We are about to launch a real rating for divx players, impartial and independant, for it is created by endusers like you and me !
