Until now DivxTest did not treat general information concerning the divx players field. This time however it makes sense to inform you about an unexpected experience, after a spanish tester using BBdoc’s CD reported that the latest Pioneer firmware (2.0.9) brings a little bit more than just the support of divx subtiltes...
We know indeed that Pioneer has released a new firmware a few days ago, proposing to send it on a CD for the time being. This firmware (these firmwares in fact, as there are two : one for Pioneer DV-470 and one for DV575) is meant to bring the support of divx subtitles : that’s an excellent thing for all Pioneer’s afficionados who have been worrying (often complaining) about this lack on their favourite player.
Surprisingly it seems that Pioneer has not only worked on subtitles : despite a total lack of communication on this particular point, one DivxTest user confirmed on our French boards that .ogg and .ogm files where now supported ! After we checked this information with some screenshots, the Team had to recognize the reliability of this information ! Pioneer is now one step ahead. This unexpected compatibility, together with the very good support of divx subtitles simply brought the DV-470 at the first place of our Top 50 !
This brand new functionnality makes us seriously think that other players based on Mediatek chipset will follow soon...
To stay as objective as possible regarding the importance of this information, it is necessary to draw everyone’s attention on the fact that the compatibility with .ogm is not complete : surely there is no more need to handle the file in any manner (rename it into .avi for instance) but Pioneer players do not support multiple soundtracks or multiple subtitles, which obviously make a great part of .ogm’s interest.
It is not sure wether this will ever be supported. Nevertheless, we are confident in asserting that an important step has been done, which will allow .ogm addicts to watch them elsewhere as only on a PC.
