This summary is here to remind you the most important information, which you can find on our CD and of course on MPC Club’s boards (who host the English section of DivxTest project )

1. What is the DivxTest project ?

Have divx players tested by end-users, in order to get the most objective summary of (DVD)-divx players capabilities. Some comparisons already exist, but none has aimed to test as much players as possible (basically ALL of them) and none has been made by the end-users themselves.

Our tests are easy : no personal feeling is requested and no particular technical knowledge. You will proceed with simple compatibility tests and with an inventory of the capabilities/connexion possibilities of your standalone divx player. The only thing which is required to access the "approved Tester" rank is a little bit of your time.

The results are available here, on DivxTest and also discussed on these forums: :
-  MPC Club for English-speaking participants.
-  Forum.surdvd for the French-speaking participants If you have any question about the CD or just want to discuss the results, don’t hesitate to go to these forums.

Besides, we are building a Top 50 of the tested players, based on the results. Of course it does not claim to be perfect. But as it is the result of some automatic calculations, it tends to erase the subjectivity of the testers and somehow reflects reality !

Surely every single consumer has his own priorities when choosing a divx player, and that is why it is important to draw everyone’s attention on the fact that our summary should rather be considered as a tool, a kind of barometer and definitely not as the golden way to the best divx player ever.

The tests and thus, the classification, take account only of the players and their equipments. To this day, no qualitative criterion are integrated.

2. Where to find our test CD ?

The V2 is available :

-  On the official download area : http://divxtest.isstar.net/. Thanks to Antoine and IS.STAR who provide their servers to ensure an optimal download.

-  on eMule, under DivXTestCDv2.0.by.bbdoc_forum.surdvd.com.iso. Her is a direct link : click here . Please check the size (699,87 Mbytes) and the hash (624E284613A14782BB72257846BCCCFE). Any other file is not original and may cause troubles while sharing.

-  On this HTTP mirror, on Essentkabel : http://mirror.essentkabel.com/divxtest

-  on http mirror heere : http://arnokb.free.fr/DivXTestCDv2.0/ (.rar format, 9 archives)

It’s also possible to download the CD via other FTP servers (including pluridis.net) and bittorrent. We kindly invite you to see the details for these accesses directly on our boards as these links are updated regularly.

We constantly look for other hosting and distribution possibilities. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you wish to support us.

The eMule download should be prefered in a first step, this will avoid overloading the FTP servers. Please, do not forget to let the disc image shared !

3. What’s in the test CD ?

To test your player, parts of trailers have been encoded in a maximum of video and audio formats. You will also find files to test the most common types of pictures and subtitles. Last but not least, we have provided a check-list of functionalities and accessories often integrated or wished by end-users in order to estimate the level of your player’s equipment.

Here is a list of the tests categories :
-  A_ Medias and Disc type
-  B_ Options / general Specifications
-  C_ GUI : Menus options
-  D_ GUI : Audio and image files options
-  E_Connections
-  F_Compatibility : Supported image types
-  G_Compatibility : Supported audio types
-  H_Compatibility : Supported video codecs
-  I_Compatibility : Video containers and “bivx” tests
-  J_Compatibility : separated subtitle files tests (for *.avi containers)
-  K_Others unreferenced (optional tests)

A detailed manual is available on the CD itself.

4. Your role

To fill the online form (when it will be available) with your results. The data will be automatically processed and the online results table immediately updated after we have validated your tests. As long as the form is not online you can post your results in our forums like that : “Test N° - Answer” :
-  On MPC Club for English speaking tester.
-  On SurDVD for French speaking testers

To help you in your task, you will find a manual on the CD describing for each test, how to do it and how to estimate your results. The CD contains also a “Result Card”. It will help you have a global view of the tests and notch the boxes before posting your results in our online form or forums.

5. How to proceed

-  You just have to answer as much questions as possible. They are all very easy, as most bring answers like "yes" or "no". The more complete your test will be, the more reliable our test results will become. Some tests can’t be performed on your player, as the files may not be recognized. That’s normal, don’t be surprised : your player can’t recognize all files.
-  Post your results on the online form and come to discuss about them and ask your questions on our forums. It’s also on these forums that the persons in charge of validating your tests will ask you some questions if something looks wrong.
-  Help us and make us the job easier : there are many players on the market. We cannot technically search the missing information by ourselves. If you decide to participate, thanks for doing it as accurately and seriously as possible.

6. Thanks and credits

-  BBdoc: concept-coordination-design of the comparison table.
